Reporter - full time or part time
The Brillion News, an award-winning, 128-year-old newspaper published weekly in print and online, is seeking a part-time or full-time reporter.
Are you interested in local sports, school boards, government or area businesses?
The Brillion News is looking for a part-time or full-time reporter. The role will work collaboratively with the editor to develop stories each week. If looking for a part-time role, the editor will work with the reporter to find topics and events the reporter is most interested in covering. The newspaper covers Brillion, Reedsville, Hilbert and Wrightstown, Wisconsin.
We are a small, family owned and operated printing company that treats their employees like family, not just a number. Along with The Brillion News, we also publish a weekly advertiser and do commercial printing for many local and nationwide businesses.
Responsibilities for a full-time reporter include:

Working with the editor to determine weekly and longer-term publication plans

Coverage to include, but not limited to, village board meetings, school board meetings, school sporting events, village activities and feature stories

Create, photograph, write and edit impactful stories

Monitor emails, social media, community groups, police scanners and other sources to find stories

Covering live or urgent situations such as fires or accidents with empathy and dignity

Engage with local community members

Review material for fairness, accuracy, and balance

Coordinate each week’s online and social media presence

Proofreading and overseeing other proofreaders’ work; maintaining the paper’s style sheet

Working directly with graphic designer to set up weekly newspaper
Qualified candidates must have:
-
Minimum of 1-2 years’ reporting/newsroom experience is preferred, but we will also consider other candidates

Strength in developmental editing and in seeing stories through from conception to final production

Command of AP grammar and style
-
Organizational skills
-
Must be able to work well under pressure to meet weekly deadlines

Understands reporting ethics and sourcing

Passion for independent journalism

A commitment to serve the communities we cover and to preserve their history for generations to come

Valid Driver's License required as well as reliable transportation and the minimum liability insurance required by state law
Full-time position includes health benefits - participation in the company’s health insurance plan at which 50% of the premium is paid, paid vacation, 2 paid sick days, profit sharing at fiscal yearend, Simple IRA (company matches up to 3%), company paid disability policy and $10K accidental death policy and there's usually treats in the breakroom!
